Update: erytropoësestimulerende agentia bij oncologiepatiënten
Inmiddels is aangetoond dat ESA’s, naast een verhoogd risico op trombo-embolische complicaties, een significante oversterfte laten zien bij oncologiepatiënten met anemie die geen chemotherapie ontvangen. Gezien de onzekerheid over tumorprogressie en oversterfte door het gebruik van ESA’s bij patiënten met anemie die wel gelijktijdig chemotherapie krijgen, wordt geadviseerd om patiënten met een ‘redelijk’ lange levensverwachting, waaronder dus ook alle patiënten die een adjuvante behandeling ondergaan, geen ESA’s voor te schrijven, maar in voorkomende gevallen te volstaan met een bloedtransfusie.
