Radiotherapie gecombineerd met cetuximab bij de behandeling van lokaal vergevorderd plaveiselcelcarcinoom van het hoofd-halsgebied
Toevoeging van cetuximab aan hoge doses radiotherapie bij patiënten met een lokaal vergevorderd plaveiselcelcarcinoom van het hoofd-halsgebied geeft een significante verlenging van de locoregionale controle en totale overleving, zonder grote toename van toxiciteit.
Deze resultaten gelden vooral voor patiënten met een orofarynxcarcinoom en bij toepassen van hyperfractionering.
Nader onderzoek zal moeten aantonen of deze combinatie even effectief is als de huidige standaardchemoradiatie. Voor enkele patiënten met een orofarynxcarcinoom bij wie chemotherapie gecontraïndiceerd is, kan toevoeging van cetuximab aan geaccelereerde en/of gehyperfractioneerde radiotherapie worden overwogen.
